The total value of the biorefinery investment is EUR 950 million, with a repayment period of less than ten years. According to the plan, the investment decision will be made in beginning of 2018, and the refinery will be built during 2018–19. The refinery will start operations in 2020.
Locals reap the benefits
The biorefinery sources its raw materials from the vicinity and employs local people and companies.
The refinery brings money to Kemijärvi, safeguarding the welfare of the people and the level of the services. The locals are thus able to reap the benefits. Employment improves in Lapland, Kemijärvi and neighboring areas. After the construction phase has ended, work is available in, for example, raw material deliveries from the forest to the refinery, services, commerce, and infrastructure maintenance.
The key objective is to ensure the biorefinery investment in Kemijärvi
The City of Kemijärvi wants to ensure that Kemijärvi gets the biorefinery, because it will create one thousand jobs, among other things. For this reason, the city has become a shareholder in Bioref Boreal Oy. It is sensible to invest city funds in a private company, because it increases the likelihood of the biorefinery becoming a reality.
The board and operative management are responsible for the company's operations.
